Melodies in the Mountains: Ben Folds & Gordi play A Day On The Green

Yesterday I was treated to a day of pure delight in Sydney’s iconic Hunter wine region at one of Pokolbin’s most spectacular locations, Bimbadgen’s Cellar Door, as I again made the pilgrimage that many music lovers do – to see some world class musicians work there magic on stage at A Day On The Green. With COVID stopping many international acts from touring this year’s event, format and structure was a little different, but with the chance to see both home grown talent and international artists who now reside here play a beautifully curated intimate gig I was onboard and ready for a day of magic, music and of course wine which was topped off with a view that would make even Monet himself jealous!

The event, headlined by American singer-songwriter, musician, composer, producer, and former leader of the band Ben Folds Five, Ben Folds, was supported by home-grown country girl and indie-folk talent Gordi, who was accompanied by fellow home grown hero Alex Lahey, and together the trio of artists treated those in attendance to a spectacular day of beautiful music atop a hill with a sprawling view of the picturesque mountainside you couldn’t help but get lost in. With hits that span two decades and anecdotes for days the talented creatives filled the day with melodic moments that won’t soon be forgotten – from how they created some of their biggest hits to a duet and even a magical moment as the sun set behind the stage and we were carried into the night together with the sounds of an incredibly talented vocalist.

If you’re yet to see just why the A Day On The Green series is a staple on many people’s festival calendars then look no further than below to some of my favourite moments with Ben Folds & Gordi as they added to this great brands legacy of amazing music in amazing places…
