Yesterday I was treated to a beautifully curated night out thanks to my friends at Celebrity Cruises as they joined forces with Queer Screen to champion LGBTQIA+ cinematography in the beginning of #PrideMonth at the launch of the Mardi Gras Film Festival. The annual event coincides with the world-renowned Mardi Gras event and not only celebrates amazing queer films from around the globe but also champions issues, triumphs and the cultures of the community much like last nights opening film from Ireland, Dating Amber. This years launch event, held at the acclaimed Moonlight Cinema, marks the opening of the season which runs until March 21 and features of 60 movies from across the globe and screens at 9 different venues both digitally and in person.
With both short and feature films on display this years event has something for everyone and with pride the festival showcase inclusive, diverse and inspirational works that showcase the best of the worlds rainbow films, those who tell the story of becoming, being and triumphing as a queer person as well as documenting events, trends and history through a focussed queer sense. With over 10 genres and 7 different types of movies that tell of 13 sexualities this years festival lineup is jam packed with must watch pieces that will help you understand and relate to the immense community it represents regardless if you are part of it, an ally or just someone who wishes to better understand.
Check out all the fun I had from last nights launch with Celebrity Cruises and if you are yet to get yourself down to a showing of this years Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival then what are you waiting for? Check out the full list of offerings here and get yourself along to a show so that you can enjoy all that this years festival has to offer!
