A Strip Of History: The Redfern & Misfit’s The History of A Showgirl

With an illustrious history that spans decades and is deep rooted in pop and underground cultures I was super excited when I got the invite to check out a new show that I had been hearing about all around town! The History of A Showgirl, performed by Natalya Alessi & Porcelain Alice is The Redfern & Misfits newest addition to showcases and while I got to see a sneak peak, it is a show that all of the cool kids were talking about even before it got to show the stage exactly why it lives up to the hype!

Before heading into the show I got to try out the delectable eats that the infamous and opulently restored venue has to offer – and a side note, the vegetarian pasta now lives rent free in my thoughts and is something I beg you to try, and as we made our way through the dinner and into the cosy space where the showcase was set to take us on a journey I was ready to see for myself all of the fun and intricacies that I’d heard this show had to offer.

Starting at the beginning and working it’s way through history we a transported to a different time, where burlesque was a new word, and the idea of sexualising dance was a craze taking the world by storm. We were shown the power of women, through the ages, and with brief pauses to acknowledge and see for ourselves a live act, brought together by two very accomplished performers we were treated to a first look and understanding at the idea of how powerful, sexy and talented women together reclaimed the idea of their bodies as their power.

I won’t give away too much as I really do think The History of A Showgirl is a show you must all see for yourselves. The talented duo will be performing the show through until October at the venue and if you haven’t yet seen it then what are you waiting for? Check out all the fun I had below…
